My name is Sophia Bukowski and I am a recent graduate of Miss Porter’s School. During the spring semester of my senior year, I took a class on Feminism and Women’s History, where we discussed the empowerment of women. For our final project, we were each asked to propose an idea of how we could use what we had learned in the class to spread kindness around campus and to the world outside of our school. After learning about the Anita, Ava House For Women from my mom and with the help of founder Gail Williams, I proposed to my class an idea for an interactive, online fundraising activity. Though my class did not decide to pursue my idea, I was glad to have shared the story of the Anita, Ava House with my school community. As a part of my graduation gift, I donated a dollar on behalf of each member of my graduating class to the Anita, Ava House, since to me its mission is about bringing more love into this world, which is something that I try to do, too. Using my donation as seed money, the Anita, Ava House now provides “Baskets of Love” to people throughout Connecticut who are facing challenges. May the “Baskets of Love” bring joy, hope, kindness, and, above all, love to all of those whose lives are touched. May those who receive this gift of love pass it forward, spreading it far and wide
